Stellant will be idle in Illinois
Budrigannews.com – Chrysler parent Stellantis on Friday said it will endlessly stop activities at a get together plant in Illinois in February where it fabricates the Jeep Cherokee SUV and said it may not continue tasks.
The Italian-American automaker said the move will lead to indefinite layoffs at its Belvidere, Illinois, plant, which employs approximately 1,350 people.
According to the company, “the most impactful challenge is the increasing cost related to the electrification of the automotive market,” but “a multitude of factors like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the global microchip shortage” have had a negative impact on the auto industry.
