Special Counsel for Trump from the US Department of Justice, why is he?
Budrigannews.com – The US Department of Justice has appointed a special adviser to handle the investigation into former President D. Trump, a senior Justice department official said Friday.
Prosecutors will oversee both the investigation into Trump’s handling of classified government documents and his attempts to obstruct a peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
It will be the Justice Department’s third special adviser to be appointed since 2017 to handle politically sensitive cases. Such prosecutors usually have a high degree of independence to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
The name of the special adviser was not immediately available.
Former FBI Director R. Mueller was appointed in 2017 to oversee the federal investigation into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and contacts with Russia. In 2019, John Durham was appointed to investigate the origins of the FBI’s investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign.
