South Korea will strengthen measures to violate airspace
Budrigannews.com – After an intrusion by North Korean drones revealed its difficulty in shooting down small aircraft, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s office said on Thursday that he had ordered a revamp of the military’s response to objects violating its airspace.
On Monday, five North Korean drones entered South Korea, triggering the mobilization of fighter jets and attack helicopters by the South Korean military, but the drones, which hovered over the country for several hours, were not shot down.
Yoon visited the state-run Agency for Defence Development to assess South Korea’s capabilities for reconnaissance and interception and called for an overhaul of the country’s response system against “all flying objects” amid criticism of the country’s air defenses in the face of North Korea’s growing nuclear and missile threats.
Yoon stated, “The North Korean drones’ intrusion into our airspace is an intolerable incident.” We ought to teach them that provocations always result in severe consequences.
Yoon has criticized the military’s response to the first incursion since 2017 on Monday, urging it to expedite the deployment of drone units.
The military expressed regret for its response and claimed that the drones were too small to be shot down.

The president stated, “To secure peace, we need to prepare for a war with overwhelming capabilities,” adding that the South’s defense procurement strategy ought to be reevaluated in light of the North’s weapon advancements.
The South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on Thursday that the nation’s military would hold drone-focused exercises.
A JCS spokesperson stated at a regular briefing, “Our military will conduct joint air defense drills… simulating response to enemy small-sized unmanned aircraft.”
