South African parliament decides Ramaphosa’s fate
Budrigannews.com – A report by a panel of experts that found preliminary evidence that President Cyril Ramaphosa may have committed misconduct over a stash of foreign currency hidden at his private game farm was scheduled for Tuesday debate in South Africa’s parliament.
The media have dubbed the scandal “Farmgate,” and Ramaphosa has denied any wrongdoing. He has tested the report in court and not been accused of any wrongdoing, however a few rivals have required his renunciation.
The panel report will be adopted by lawmakers later on Tuesday, kicking off the impeachment process.
However, the African National Congress (ANC) party, which controls the majority of seats in the National Assembly, told its parliamentary caucus last week to reject the vote. As a result, it is unlikely that it will pass.

The vote comes just a few days before a contest for the ANC leadership that will determine whether or not Ramaphosa will run for a second term on the party ticket at an election in 2024.
The unfamiliar money concealed in furniture at Ramaphosa’s Phala game ranch was taken in 2020 yet just became visible in June. The theft has raised questions about Ramaphosa’s acquisition of the funds and whether or not he declared them. Ramaphosa came to power on the promise to fight corruption.
Ramaphosa has stated that game sales were the source of a much smaller sum of money than the millions of dollars that were reported stolen. Contrary to the allegations, he claimed that he reported the theft as soon as he learned of it.
