Budrigannews.com – The latest in a series of government actions against the country’s gambling industry, civil proceedings against SkyCity Entertainment Group’s Adelaide casino were initiated on Wednesday by Australia’s financial crime regulator.
The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), a regulator, has accused SkyCity, which is listed on the New Zealand bourse, of violating anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws, which could result in substantial fines.

In a statement, SkyCity stated that the regulator had not yet determined the severity of the penalty it would seek. It stated that SkyCity may be subject to a civil penalty “which may be material” if the federal court accepted AUSTRAC’s claim in whole or in part.
