Santa Claus will come despite bad weather
Budrigannews.com – Officials from the United States military have reassured children who are worried that the arctic blast and snowstorm that disrupted flights this week will not prevent Santa Claus from flying on Christmas Eve.
A spokesperson for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks the yuletide flight deadpanned, “We have to deal with a polar vortex once in a while, but Santa lives year-round in one at the North Pole, so he’s used to this weather.”
NORAD, a joint U.S.-Canadian military command based at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has been monitoring air defenses and issuing aerospace and maritime warnings for 67 years. It has also provided images and updates on the legendary figure’s worldwide journey.
The misprint in a Colorado Springs newspaper in 1955 that included the telephone number of a department store where children could call to speak with Santa gave rise to the Santa tracker tradition. The listed number was assigned to the Continental Air Defense Command at the time.
An understanding officer answered the children’s calls and reassured them that Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nick or Father Christmas, was in the air and on time to deliver presents to good children and teens from his reindeer-powered sleigh.
According to NORAD’s Wiseman, Santa does not have a formal flight plan, so the military is never entirely sure when or where he will take off. However, the Santa tracker will go live on the NORAD website on Friday at 4 a.m. EST (0900 GMT).

When the carefree old mythical being’s lead reindeer, Rudolph, turns on his sparkling red nose, military staff can focus in on his area utilizing infrared sensors, Wiseman said.
He added that Santa slows down to wave to the pilots of U.S. and Canadian fighter jets who are escorting him over North America as a gesture of goodwill.
