Ryanair will have to pay for strikes in 2018
Budrigannews.com – Holdings of Ryanair PLC (IR:) a statement released on Monday by Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stated that has chosen not to pursue an appeal to the U.K. Supreme Court over a previous ruling that a strike action by the airline’s staff was not an “extraordinary circumstance.”
The CAA stated that passengers affected by a labor strike in 2018 “should be” able to successfully claim compensation from the budget carrier as a result of the decision. Following walkouts by pilots and cabin crew that summer, flight cancellations affected tens of thousands of customers.

Prior to entering into a legal dispute with the CAA, Ryanair, which has its headquarters in Dublin, argued that it was not obligated to compensate these passengers for the disruptions because the strikes themselves constituted an “extraordinary circumstance.” In April 2021, a high court ruled in Ryanair’s favor, and in January, the UK Court of Appeal upheld the decision.
Ryanair was given permission to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court after the judgment. It has, however, abandoned its plan to appeal.
