Budrigannews.com – In what the authorities referred to as an anti-corruption purge carried out during the war, security personnel searched the residence of one of Ukraine’s most prominent billionaires. This action was taken against a person who was previously thought to be the sponsor of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Later, the security service said it had found a plan to steal more than $1 billion from oil producers Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta, which Ihor Kolomoiskiy, a billionaire, used to partly own. Kolomoiskiy has previously denied any wrongdoing, but he was unavailable for comment.

Two days before Ukraine hosts a summit with the European Union at which Kyiv wants to demonstrate that it is cracking down on corruption after years of chronic corruption, Ukrainian security forces also raided the Tax Office and the residence of former interior minister Arsen Avakov. Additionally, a new chief of the Customs Service was appointed.

According to Avakov, the purchase of helicopters similar to the one that crashed on January 18, killing 14 people, including Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, was under investigation. “None relevant to the interest of the investigation was found,” he stated.

A soldier in a Ukrainian unit of Belarusian volunteers told Reuters from inside the city that Russian forces were maneuvering to try to surround the eastern city of Bakhmut, where troops were fighting building to building for gains of only 100 meters (yards) per night amid constant Russian shelling.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported late on Tuesday that Bakhmut and the villages on its southern approaches came under renewed Russian fire. Additionally, Russian forces attempted to advance on Avdiivka, Lyman, Vuhledar, and a half-dozen other towns and villages.

Despite what it called a destructive U.S. approach to arms control, Russia stated that it wanted to preserve its last nuclear treaty with the United States. Moscow was accused by Washington on Tuesday of breaking the New START agreement by refusing to allow inspections on its territory.

Two U.S. officials briefed on the situation disclosed on Tuesday that Washington is working on a new $2.2 billion package that is expected to include rockets with a longer range.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated that providing Ukraine with additional Western weapons would exacerbate the conflict and further engage NATO members.

If Russian and Belarusian athletes are included in the 2024 Olympics and qualifiers, Latvia and Kyiv have threatened to boycott them while the war in Ukraine continues.

“Are there any other children here with whom you can play?” After finding Arina, six, in Bakhmut, policeman Pavlo Dyachenko questioned her. She responded with “No” and began to cry.
