Russia rejected Zelensky’s plan and intensified shelling

Budrigannews.com – While the Kremlin rejected a Ukrainian peace plan and demanded that Kyiv accept its annexation of four regions, Russian forces launched intense mortar and artillery attacks on Ukraine’s recently liberated southern city of Kherson across the Dnipro River.

Kherson has stayed under siege from Russian powers which had withdrawn toward the east bank of the stream when the city was retaken in a significant triumph for Ukraine last month.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy chief of staff for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said that the shelling on Wednesday hit a hospital’s maternity wing, but no one was hurt. In a Telegram post, Tymoshenko stated that the patients and staff were relocated to a shelter.

Olha Prysidko, a new mother, stated, “It was frightening… the explosions began abruptly, the window handle started to tear off… oh, my hands are still shaking.” The shelling continued when we reached the basement. Not even a second.”

Moscow has repeatedly denied that civilians are its target.

In a video address, Zelenskiy urged Ukrainians to spend more time with loved ones, show friends how much they mean to them, support colleagues, thank their parents, and celebrate with their children.

He stated, “We have not lost our humanity, despite the terrible months we have endured.” Despite the difficult year ahead, we will not lose it.

On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia’s actions have been condemned as an imperialist-style land grab by Kyiv and its Western allies. To demilitarize its neighbor, Russian President Vladimir Putin refers to it as a “special military operation.”

Russia has been subjected to severe sanctions as a result of the war, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people, the exodus of millions from their homes, the destruction of cities, and a resurgence in food and energy costs.

In 2022, Russian gas pipeline exports to Europe fell to a post-Soviet low as its largest customer, Gazprom, cut imports due to the Ukraine conflict and a major pipeline was damaged by a series of enigmatic explosions. Reuters calculations and data demonstrate.

“TODAY’S REALITIES”: Talks to end the war have not yet occurred.

Zelenskiy is actively advocating a 10-point peace plan that calls for Russia to withdraw all of its troops and respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

However, Moscow rejected it on Wednesday, stating once more that Kyiv must accept Russia’s annexation of the four regions, which are Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south, Luhansk and Donetsk in the east, and Kherson.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated that there can be no peace plan “that does not take into account today’s realities regarding Russian territory, with the entry of four regions into Russia.”

According to the RIA news agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Zelenskiy’s plan to get Russia to pay damages to Kyiv and drive Russia out of eastern Ukraine and Crimea with Western assistance is an “illusion.”

According to TASS, Lavrov stated that Russia would continue to enhance its technological and fighting capabilities in Ukraine. He stated that Moscow’s mobilized troops had undergone “serious training,” and while a number of them were currently on the ground, the majority had not yet advanced to the front.

Zelenskiy commended Ukrainians for assisting the West to “find itself again” and urged parliament to maintain unity.

In a private annual speech, he stated, “Our national colors are today an international symbol of courage and indomitability of the whole world.”

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Wednesday that Russia shelled more than 25 settlements around Kherson and Zaporizhzhia on the battlefield. The region of Kherson, which is at the Dnipro’s mouth, is the entry point to the annexed Crimea by Russia.

The city of Bakhmut, which is held by Ukrainian forces and is located in the eastern province of Donetsk, and the cities of Svatove and Kreminna, both in Luhansk, where Ukrainian forces are attempting to break through Russian defensive lines, were the scene of intense fighting.

Russia likely reinforced the Kreminna section of the frontline, according to Britain’s defense ministry, due to its logistical importance and relative vulnerability to Ukrainian advances further west.

Oleh Zhdanov, a military analyst based in Kyiv, said that a gas pipeline in the region had been damaged in heavy attacks that also hit Kharkiv.

In a Telegram post, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov claimed that the city had been attacked twice “presumably” by Iranian Shahed drones. Five of the drones were reported by Ukraine’s eastern air command to have been shot down over the city of Dnipro.
