Romeo and Juliet in Ukrainian
Budrigannews.com – Friday marked the happy reunion of Hanna Vavarenko and her husband at a Kyiv railway station, nine months after she fled Ukraine’s war to Germany.
Despite a last-minute issue in which their train was held up at the town of Bucha outside of Kyiv due to Russian air strikes, she and her son were able to return to Ukraine in time for the customary New Year’s celebrations.
While we were traveling through Bucha on the train, we discovered that there had been a significant attack. “Our train stopped right in Bucha,” a 31-year-old pediatrician told Reuters at the Kyiv station.
She said, struggling to control her emotions as she remembered her fears at the time: Please pardon my inability to adequately express those emotions. Sadness, despair, and fear.”
While they waited for a subsequent train to complete Vavarenko’s journey back home to the city of Kharkiv in the northeast, she sat with her head resting on her husband’s shoulder.
Unknown to her, her husband has remained in Ukraine due to the fact that young men cannot leave the country, even if they are not fighting.
She stated, “I haven’t seen my husband and father for nine months.” Despite the fact that “all my friends in Germany and all our friends who stayed in Ukraine tried to dissuade us from this trip.”
“At least for this week, it was very important for us to see each other. More than two days are spent on our trip home. But it’s worth it for this.
Vavarenko, who will travel back to Germany with her son after the holidays, found her trip less terrifying than the day of Russia’s invasion.

“On the morning of February 24, I was more afraid. Those feelings were the most terrifying thing for me, “she stated.
“Everything began in the area where we live close to the border. We were among the first to learn. Compared to today, this was much more frightening.
