Republicans Win, Kevin McCarthy Could Face Trial

Budrigannews.com – As Republicans edged closer to a narrower-than-expected majority in the US House of Representatives, its leader Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday made the move to become the speaker of the House he had always wanted.

You can also get another difficult job – a tightrope walker.

McCarthy, 57, is a clear favorite to replace fellow Californian Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House of Representatives in May: a lot of influence and a lot of headaches as president, McCarthy would be in a good position to thwart the legislative ambitions of Democratic President Joe Biden.

McCarthy overcame a challenge from conservative Rep. Andy Biggs in the Republican House leadership race on Tuesday, winning the vote in a closed-door meeting by a score of 188-31, according to sources close to the outcome.

McCarthy is not expected to be officially elected president until the new Congress takes office on May 5, assuming Republicans win a majority.

House Speaker Steve Scalise, who was elected majority leader in the Republican-led House, shrugged off suggestions that McCarthy could face obstacles when he votes for speaker in May.

“The election was tense. But we will win by a majority vote. And we talked a lot about what we’re going to do to get this country back on the right track. And that’s what we’re focusing on,” Scalise told reporters.

But other Republicans have said McCarthy could embark on a speaking trip next year.

Congressman Matt Goetz, one of his most loyal opponents, predicted that only 1 in 5 Republicans could block McCarthy’s candidacy in the House of Representatives.

“I hope to find someone in this room who doesn’t have 5 people who want to vote for him. But that wouldn’t be Kevin McCarthy,” Getz told reporters.

McCarthy spent his adult life in politics as a congressional staffer before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2006, and then as a state legislator.

Assuming the presidency, the second position of the successor of the US president, would be the pinnacle of McCarthy’s career, but he has an irreconcilable tendency and close loyalty to former Republican President Donald Trump in the House that always moves to the right.

“The Republican leadership in the House of Representatives has much less room for mistakes. The House is close to the Senate and a handful of lawmakers can fix everything very quickly,” said Republican strategist Alex Conant. McCarthy would probably end up with a more populist group to push him further to the right.”

A week after the midterm elections, when votes are still being counted in several important races, Republicans are on the verge of securing an overwhelming majority of Democrats in the House of Representatives to claim control of 435 seats in the Chamber, according to Edison Research.

Republicans did not have the “red wave” they predicted for a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives and control of the Senate. Instead, Democrats have a majority in the Senate, which means that if Republicans take the House of Representatives, both parties will have to work together to pass the law.

Migraine headache

House Republicans are increasingly embracing the right-wing populism and fist-pumping style of Trump, who is expected to begin the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday.

The hardline conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives came under various pressures from the Republican right wing, with the last 2 Republicans in the House, John Boehner and Paul Ryan, firmly holding the reins of their leadership and leadership. If they get angry with him, it will be easier to leave him.

“Kevin McCarthy is going to have a lot of migraines,” Republican strategist Ron Bonjean said.”This is the first salvo even before McCarthy became speaker, the first of what is expected to be a series of high-level talks over the next 2 years.”

As president, McCarthy will focus on the issues Republicans see in his favor – inflation, energy policy and crime – and launch an investigation into the Biden administration and the family.McCarthy will also surround his group with votes to keep the government open, fund the military and pass a bill to address the U.S. debt ceiling approaching 2023. You have to be able to do that.

Republicans are considering a number of investigations conducted by Biden and his administration, as well as related to US border security, immigration, China, the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, Biden’s chaotic withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan and the seizure of secret FBI documents from Trump’s Florida home.

McCarthy was considered a favorite speaker after Boehner announced his retirement in 2015. But McCarthy pulled out in the face of conservative opposition. Instead, the speaker turned to the reluctant Ryan, who decided not to be re-elected to Congress in 2018.

Biggs’ challenge among several conservatives to blame McCarthy for the Republicans’ overwhelming midterm results showed the challenge he could face in managing the more conservative elements of his party. But McCarthy has the support of Jim Jordan, one of the most influential conservative voices in the House.

Liberal members of the House of Representatives want to restore the deputy’s ability to lead the movement for the impeachment of the president. In 2015, such a decision, called the decision to leave the Presidency, preceded Boehner’s resignation. The Freedom Caucus also wants the House to consider only laws that are supported by a majority of Republicans and chosen by committee members rather than party leaders.
