Republicans taking revenge for Trump by voting to prosecute Biden

Budrigannews.com – On Tuesday, Republicans who control the House of Representatives in the United States approved a vote to open an investigation into what they call President Joe Biden’s “weaponization” of the federal government. Democrats, on the other hand, characterized the vote as a partisan fishing expedition.

Republicans have pledged to use their new majority to oppose the Justice Department, FBI, and other federal agencies that are looking into Republican former president Donald Trump and his supporters, who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Creating a “Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government” was the goal of the party-line vote on Tuesday. The body is going to launch a comprehensive investigation into the administration of Democrat Biden, which Republicans claim is “weaponizing” the FBI against Trump.

Republicans will also look into claims that the Biden administration coerced big tech companies into censoring opinions that go against White House policy. Legislators would investigate how the executive branch collaborates with the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and other agencies “to facilitate action against” American citizens, according to the bill that established the panel.

In a speech delivered on the House floor, Republican Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer stated, “We need to get to work now.” We must expose the abuses committed by the federal bureaucracy, which is unelected and unreliable.”

Those investigating alleged mishandling of classified documents and Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat in 2020 are among the targeted federal agencies. Trump has characterized these investigations as “witch hunts.”

“Joe Biden and his administration’s weaponization of the Department of Justice and FBI… The FBI raid of President Trump is a complete abuse and overreach of its authority,” said Republican Representative Elise Stefanik days after the August search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort for classified material.

A provision that grants the committee authority to investigate “ongoing criminal investigations,” which are typically outside the scope of congressional oversight, has sparked concern among Democrats.

The highest-ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, stated, “This is a violation of the separation of powers, and it’s also very dangerous.”

The White House announced on Monday that Biden’s lawyers discovered classified documents at a president-affiliated Washington think tank.

Although fewer documents were involved and Biden’s team claimed it turned them over upon discovery, Republicans compared that discovery to the criminal investigation into Trump’s removal of classified documents from the White House. However, Trump resisted requests to return the documents and now faces an investigation into whether he obstructed justice.

Legal experts said that any attempt by a congressional committee to obtain documents related to ongoing investigations would almost certainly be rejected by federal law enforcement agencies.

One potential candidate for a subcommittee seat is Republican Judiciary Committee member Scott Perry, whose phone was seized as part of the federal investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. That would put him in a position to try to lead a federal investigation into himself.

Former FBI agent and Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick told Reuters that he supported the subcommittee’s creation.

However, he went on to say that providing information regarding an ongoing investigation was “inconsistent with federal law.”

He stated, “I’m going to keep an eye on this.”
