Republicans are investigating Biden

Budrigannews.com – After classified documents were discovered in President Joe Biden’s office and garage, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Sunday demanded visitor logs for the house in Wilmington, Delaware.

In a Sunday letter to White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, Representative James Comer stated, “The American people will never know who had access to these highly sensitive documents without a list of individuals who have visited his residence.”

Conservatives have tried to contrast the Biden records case and that of previous President Donald Trump, who faces a government criminal test of how he dealt with characterized reports after he went out. However, legal experts claim that the two cases are vastly different.

Comer stated that he would not request visitor logs for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, where an FBI search yielded more than 100 classified documents.

In an interview with CNN on Sunday, he stated, “I don’t feel like we need to spend a whole lot of time because the Democrats have done that for the past six years.”

Trump has declared that he will run for president again in 2024, with Biden expected to be his Democratic opponent.

Last week, Biden’s legal team announced that they had discovered classified documents pertaining to his time as vice president under the Obama administration at his Delaware home. On Saturday, his lawyers said they found five more pages in his house.

Presidents of the United States are not required by law to disclose visitors to their residence or the White House. In May 2021, the Biden administration released its first set of records and reinstituted disclosures to the White House of official guests. The practice had been put on hold by former President Donald Trump shortly after he took office in 2017.

On Friday, Republicans in the United States House of Representatives began an investigation into the Justice Department’s handling of Biden’s improperly stored classified documents. The case is also being examined by Comer’s committee.

The investigation comes as Trump is currently the subject of a criminal investigation by the federal government for mishandling classified documents during his presidency.

In the Biden case, the president’s lawyers reported discovering a few documents at a Washington think tank and later at Biden’s Wilmington residence to the National Archives and Justice Department.

In the case of Trump, the National Archives attempted unsuccessfully to retrieve all of his retained records for more than a year after he left office. In January 2022, when Trump finally returned 15 boxes of documents, officials at the Archives discovered that they contained classified information.

Trump’s lawyers provided additional documents from his Mar-a-Lago residence after the matter was referred to the Justice Department, claiming that there were no additional documents on the premises.

It turned out to be incorrect. The FBI was successful in obtaining an additional 13,000 documents from the estate, about 100 of which were marked as classified.

The “Mar-a-Lago Act,” which House Democrats introduced in 2017 and would have required Trump to regularly disclose visitors to his Florida home, was never put to a vote in either the chamber or the full Congress.

The incoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Democratic Adam Schiff, stated that Congress should request an assessment from the U.S. intelligence community regarding whether any documents from either Biden or Trump endangered national security.

Schiff stated on ABC’s “This Week” that “I don’t think we can exclude the possibility without knowing more of the facts.”
