Republican Sues for Stolen Elections by Democrats
Budrigannews.com – Wednesday, attorneys for Republican Kari Lake, who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Arizona last month, appeared in court to argue that the election was invalid and should be overturned.
In the election on November 8, Lake lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs by approximately 17,000 votes. Endorsing former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen was a central tenet of her gubernatorial campaign.
Lake filed a lawsuit to have the outcome overturned in accordance with Arizona’s election laws after her defeat. She wants the election to be rescheduled or declared the winner.
The majority of Lake’s claims were rejected by Maricopa County Judge Peter Thompson, but two were allowed to proceed to a two-day bench trial.
Lake has argued that Maricopa County printer issues on election day prevented thousands of voters from casting ballots, which the county has denied.
In order for Lake to succeed at trial, she must meet a high evidentiary standard—essentially, she must demonstrate that county election officials and a private contractor intended to sway the election and contributed to Lake’s defeat to Hobbs.
The county says there was nothing wrong. At the trial, Hobbs will not testify.

In the end, Thompson will make a decision before the losing side can appeal to the Arizona Supreme Court. On January 2, Hobbs will be sworn in.
Lake expressed her optimism that her lawsuit would be successful earlier this week at a gathering of conservatives. On Twitter, Hobbs’ election attorney, Marc Elias, stated that Lake had little chance of prevailing under the law.
Elias wrote, “It will be impossible for Lake to prove intentional wrongdoing and that it affected the outcome of the election.”
