Report of attack on Capitol will be published soon
Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, the final report of the U.S. congressional panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol presents its case that former President Donald Trump should face criminal charges for inciting the deadly riot.
Based on nearly 1,200 interviews conducted over the course of 18 months, hundreds of thousands of documents, and the decisions of more than 60 federal and state courts, the online report is anticipated to be over 1,000 pages long.
The report contains 17 specific findings, a discussion of the legal repercussions of Trump’s actions and those of some of his associates, and criminal referrals of Trump and other individuals to the Justice Department. It additionally distinguishes administrative proposals to assist with turning away another such assault.
The committee asked federal prosecutors to charge the former Republican president with four crimes, including obstruction and insurrection, for trying to overturn the results of the November 2020 election and starting the attack on the seat of government. The report was released two days after the committee asked federal prosecutors to do so.
In a 160-page summary of the report that was released on Monday, the Democratic-led House of Representatives select committee stated that “President Trump instead plotted to overturn the election outcome” rather than honoring his constitutional obligation to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
The morning of January 6th, Trump gave a passionate speech to his supporters near the White House. In it, he publicly criticized Mike Pence, his vice president, for not supporting his plan to reject votes cast in favor of Democrat Joe Biden. After that, Trump waited for hours to make a public statement while thousands of his supporters stormed the Capitol, assaulting law enforcement and threatening to hang Vice President Mike Pence.
The Democratic-led select committee had to finish its work before Trump’s fellow Republicans took control of the House on January 3, and it did so with a bang. On Monday, a congressional committee referred a former president for criminal charges for the first time in American history.
“The work of this committee is about to come to an end. However, as a nation, we are still in uncharted waters. The Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson, who is in charge of the Jan. 6 committee, stated on Monday that “we’ve never had a president of the United States stir up a violent attempt to block the transfer of power.”
More Votes of voters-new reform of U.S. Congress
While a special counsel is in charge of two additional federal investigations into Trump in connection with his attempt to overturn his defeat by Biden in the 2020 election and the removal of classified files from the White House, the committee’s request that Trump be charged does not compel federal prosecutors to act.
