Putin’s 36-hour truce is nothing but a respite-Biden
Budrigannews.com – “I think he’s trying to find some oxygen,” said U.S. President Joe Biden, who suggested that Vladimir Putin’s struggle in Ukraine after ten months of war and thousands of deaths had prompted the Russian president to offer a 36-hour truce.
According to the Kremlin, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, requested a Christmas truce and called for a ceasefire at noon on Friday.
Ukraine turned down the ceasefire offer during Orthodox Christmas, claiming that there wouldn’t be a truce until Russia pulled its troops out of occupied territory.
Biden addressed reporters at the White House when asked about the truce proposal: I hesitate to respond to Putin’s statements. It intrigued me that he was willing to bomb churches, nurseries, and hospitals on the 25th and New Year’s Eve. All in all, I believe he’s attempting to discover some oxygen.”
On January 6, when many Orthodox Christians, including those in Russia and Ukraine, observe Christmas, Putin’s ceasefire would begin. It would be the first significant ceasefire in the war that has lasted more than ten months, claimed tens of thousands of lives, and ravaged large portions of Ukraine.
