Prosecutor demands to convict Biden’s opponents for incitement

Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, a prosecutor pleaded with a jury to find four members of the far-right Oath Keepers guilty of seditious conspiracy. The prosecutor claimed that the four conspired to prevent the U.S. Congress from certifying the 2020 election because they could not accept President Joe Biden’s victory.
“The defendants were unable to maintain the election. “They could not allow Biden to become president,” Louis Manzo, a federal prosecutor, told the jury.
On January 6, 2021, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an effort to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.
Manzo made the accusation during closing arguments that the defendants Roberto Minuta, Joseph Hackett, David Moerschel, and Edward Vallejo were upending America’s two-century record of “the routine peaceful transfer of power” by pointing across the room.
He stated, “For these defendants, it was everything they trained for. Our democracy was under attack.”
The prosecutors have been accused of cherry-picking evidence to present what they claim is a misleading narrative, and the four defendants’ defense attorneys have denied that their clients devised a plan to prevent the certification of the 2020 election.
The second major seditious conspiracy trial arising from the attack came to an end on Wednesday with closing arguments. The chaos resulted in the deaths of four people and five police officers, as well as the injuries of approximately 140 officers and damage to the Capitol that cost millions of dollars.
Members of the Oath Keeper are accused of working together to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s victory in the election.
Seditious conspiracy is a Civil War-era statute that, if convicted, carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. It is rarely prosecuted.
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and a Florida chapter leader were found guilty of seditious conspiracy in November, but three other Oath Keeper defendants were found not guilty.
However, in that case, all five Oath Keepers were found guilty of preventing Congress from certifying the electoral votes, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
In the same courthouse, a third seditious conspiracy trial is underway against five members of the far-right Proud Boys group, including its former chairman Henry “Enrique” Tarrio.
Rhodes’ incendiary remarks about “civil war” and “bloody war” took center stage in both Oath Keepers trials, and prosecutors claimed that the other members were motivated to carry out his vision.
Prosecutors claim that under his direction, some of the group broke into the Capitol wearing tactical gear, while others hid behind a stockpile of firearms in a nearby Arlington, Virginia, hotel.
Hackett, Minuta, and Moerschel were among the members who actually entered the Capitol; Vallejo, on the other hand, is alleged to have assisted in the planning of the Virginia weapons stockpile.
Although Minuta gained some attention for his role in providing security for Trump ally and Republican political operative Roger Stone, none of the four members of the group held positions of leadership.
On the day of the attack, Minuta uploaded a number of inflammatory videos to social media, one of which included the following line: What do you know? Millions will pass away. Why then? Prepare your soul for the worst. Get in touch with God.
In his closing arguments on Wednesday, Minuta’s attorney William Shipley acknowledged that his client was acting “crazy” in the videos, but he said that the videos had nothing to do with Rhodes. He also said that the government was taking the evidence out of context.
He stated, “This case is about a narrative in the midst of a sea of evidence.” However, there is no evidence.”
