Pre-Christmas strikes may last on Amazon in Germany
Budrigannews.com – Verdi, a German labor union, contacted Amazon (NASDAQ:) employees on Sunday. warehouses all over Germany will support rolling strikes in the coming days as a protest over pay. The goal is to cause as much disruption as possible to the online retailer’s business before Christmas.
According to the union, in response to pay increases that did not keep up with inflation, it had called on employees at seven German distribution centers to spontaneously shut down their tools in strikes that would take place in different locations.
Verdi has been organizing strikes at Amazon’s German locations since 2013 as a long-running protest against low pay and poor working conditions. Germany is Amazon’s second largest market after the United States.
The union stated, “Colleagues are enraged and don’t want to be taken for fools by a company that makes billions of dollars.”
An email asking for clarification did not immediately receive a response from Amazon, which does not recognize collective bargaining agreements in Germany.
According to Verdi, Amazon employees in Germany earned a few thousand euros less per year than their counterparts at businesses that had collective bargaining rights.

It claimed that Amazon management’s efforts to prepare for strikes would be hindered by alternating strikes.
When asked if its Amazon members had voted on the strike action, the union did not immediately respond.
