Budrigannews.com – In the most recent air accident in the Himalayan nation, a Yeti Airlines flight crashed in Nepal on Sunday, killing at least 68 people just seconds before taking off.
Sanjay Kumar, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, stated by phone that the twin-engine ATR-72 turboprop, which took off from Kathmandu at 10:32 a.m. local time and crashed close to Pokhara airport around 11 a.m., was a twin-engine aircraft. According to a spokesperson for the airline, Sudarshan Bartaula, there were 68 passengers and four crew members on board.
Bartaula stated that the plane went down “10 to 20 seconds before landing.” He claimed that there was no distress call from the cockpit prior to the catastrophe. Kumar stated that rescue efforts are being carried out by the police and armed forces of Nepal.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, there were 15 foreigners on board, including individuals from India, France, Australia, Ireland, Russia, and Korea.
According to Kumar, the aircraft crashed in clear weather.
In a statement released on Sunday, ATR stated that it had been informed of the accident and that its employees are “fully engaged to support both the investigation and the customer.”
Pokhara is a popular tourist destination near a lake and is located in the middle of Nepal, below the Annapurna Mountains.
In Nepal, a picturesque Himalayan nation popular with adventurous tourists, pilgrims, and mountaineers, flying is notoriously risky. A plane operated by Tara Air that was carrying 22 people from Pokhara to the mountains crashed in May, killing everyone on board.
