Budrigannews.com – According to the power ministry, a “major breakdown” of the national grid caused nationwide power outages on Monday morning in Pakistan, affecting factories, hospitals, and schools in all of the country’s major cities.
According to power minister Khurrum Dastagir, a voltage fluctuation in the grid between the cities of Jamshoro and Dadu in the southern Sindh province caused the breakdown to begin at 7:34 a.m. (02:34 GMT).
“The systems were shut down one at a time as a result of a voltage change. Dastagir stated to the Geo TV news channel, “This is not a major crisis.”
In addition to the capital Islamabad, the eastern city of Lahore, the southern port city of Karachi, and the northern city of Peshawar, there were reports of outages.
Back-up generators were utilized, according to Mohammad Asim, a spokesman for Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, the largest hospital in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to ensure that the emergency ward, intensive care units, and laboratories were powered on continuously.
The minister stated that electricity had been restored in some parts of the country, and the power ministry issued a statement stating that work was ongoing to revive the system.
Pakistan has sufficient installed power capacity to meet demand, particularly during the winter months, when it has a surplus. However, the country lacks the resources necessary to run its oil and gas-powered plants, the industry is heavily indebted, and the National Grid (LON:) has developed as a result of inadequate investment in power lines and infrastructure. experiencing regular breakdowns.
