Novak Djokovic Wins another Australian Open

Budrigannews.com – Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open for the tenth time, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to equal Rafael Nadal’s record for most men’s singles titles at a Grand Slam.
The 35-year-old Serbian now has 22 major titles, tied with the Spaniard, thanks to Sunday’s victory in Melbourne. Serena Williams has won 23 major singles titles in the Open Era, while Steffi Graf has won 22. Margaret Court of Australia won 24 times in total.
Djokovic won the first set 6-3 and saved set points against Tsitsipas in the second before winning a tie-break and again in the final third set at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, where its 84-year-old namesake was present.
After receiving his trophy on the court, Djokovic stated, “Considering the circumstances, this is probably the biggest victory of my life.” I hope to see you again next year.
Tsitsipas, 24, was born in Athens. He hasn’t won a Grand Slam yet. He also lost to Djokovic in the French Open final in 2021, his only previous major final.
Djokovic said that it was definitely not Tsitsipas’s last Grand Slam effort and thanked his opponent for being respectful. You still have plenty of time, significantly more than I do.
From 2019 to 2021, Djokovic won the Australian Open three times in a row. However, he was unable to defend his title last year because he was kicked out of the country for not having been vaccinated against the polio virus.
He also didn’t play in the US Open because international travelers still have to get vaccinated.
Djokovic stated, “This has been one of the most difficult tournaments, considering the circumstances of not playing last year and returning this year.” I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who made me feel at home and at ease in Melbourne.
There was a lot of controversy this year. After being filmed with a group of pro-Russian fans following an earlier match, Djokovic’s father skipped the semifinal. The defending Wimbledon champion has one more record to break this summer: his seven titles at Wimbledon leave him one trophy behind Roger Federer.
