New Job in UK to Combat Crypto Fraud
Budrigannews.com – The National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom is taking steps to target cryptocurrency crimes more closely and combat criminals.
The National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU), the cyber-focused command of the NCA, is establishing a cryptocurrency unit to investigate cyber incidents in the United Kingdom involving the use of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC).
The crypto-focused unit, dubbed “NCCU Crypto Cell,” will initially consist of five officers devoted to “proactive cryptocurrency remit.”
NCA infrastructure investigations director Chris Lewis-Evans told Cointelegraph, “This is a really exciting opportunity that involves working in a team at the forefront of protecting the U.K. from cyber crime.” He added:
“Cryptocurrency and virtual assets are widely viewed as specialist areas of knowledge, and this role is key to supporting NCA investigations in which these are used to enable serious criminality.”
NCA is looking for a cryptocurrency investigator with extensive experience in conducting serious and organized crime blockchain forensic investigations to join the project.
The upcoming crypto crime fighter for the NCA will be required to support both existing and new investigations by providing investigators with strategic and tactical advice regarding crypto cases. Experience in advanced blockchain tracing and the identification and recovery of seed phrases are required for the position.
The salary for the position ranges from $48,200 to $52,400 per year in British pounds. The deadline for applications is January 10, 2023.
NCA’s move plans to increment administrative spotlight on crypto resources in the U.K. in the midst of the public authority’s call to kill “filthy cash” in the country. The United Kingdom’s government introduced a bill in September 2022 with the intention of reducing fraud and money laundering, particularly by expanding the authority of authorities to seize cryptocurrency used for illegal purposes.
Detective chief superintendent Andy Gould of the National Police Chiefs’ Council claims that as of October 2022, all police officers in the United Kingdom had received training for investigations involving the enforcement of crypto and the seizure of crypto.
