Murder and fear on the streets of Hedingham

Budrigannews.com – Last week, in Raleigh, North Carolina, a deadly shooting occurred, and distressed 911 callers described chilling scenes of bleeding bodies on the ground, screams, and gunshots ringing out in a peaceful neighborhood.
The fear and horror that swept through the streets of the city’s Hedingham neighborhood on Thursday was captured in recordings of the calls that were released late on Friday by Raleigh police. There, authorities said, a 15-year-old male suspect shot and killed five people before being apprehended after an hours-long manhunt.
“There is a lady, unconscious along the trail,” a distressed 911 caller told the operator. She is bleeding, my God.”
A different caller claimed that he heard multiple gunshots and screams coming from outside his house. As the shooting progressed, some callers hid inside their homes and spoke softly.
One man frantically told the 911 operator, “I got one male down.” He later said that the man had been shot in the chest and that the victim was an off-duty Raleigh police officer.
Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said at a news conference on Friday that the suspect was taken to a North Carolina hospital where he was in critical condition after being apprehended by police near the Neuse River Greenway, a local walking and biking trail.
The alleged shooter’s motivation for opening fire in the neighborhood and on the bike and jogging trail was unknown, according to authorities.
The shooting spree began at 5 p.m. (2100 GMT) on the streets of the middle-class neighborhood. Residents were instructed to remain inside their homes for several hours while large-scale searches were carried out by police.
Residents of the state capital, a city of approximately 500,000 people known as a center for high-tech research, were said to have been shaken by the shootings, according to officials.
A 16-year-old boy and three 52-, 49-, and 35-year-old women were among the dead. Chief Patterson stated that Gabriel Torres, a 29-year-old officer who had been on his way to work at the time of the incident, was the officer who died in the shooting.
There were two injuries: she added, a 59-year-old woman who was hospitalized in critical condition and a police officer who was treated and released.
