Migrants waiting at border of Mexico and U.S.

Budrigannews.com – At the U.S.-Mexico border on Wednesday, hundreds of migrants bundled up in coats and blankets formed a long line in the cold winter air, hoping that the Christmas holiday will end the uncertainty surrounding their chances of securing asylum in the United States.

After a Dec. 21 deadline for the United States to lift COVID-era restrictions, many people hoped entry would be easier. However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled this week to let the policy, Title 42, stay in place for a while.

Several Venezuelans lamented the last-minute move as they observed the trickle of migrants entering the United States through the gates.

“We are in wait. Here they say a certain something, then 30 minutes after the fact they say something different,” said Venezuelan Vanessa Revenga, 40, one of thousands of transients to assemble lately in the Mexican boundary city of Ciudad Juarez, inverse El Paso, Texas.

Migrants of certain nationalities, including Venezuelans, can be sent back to Mexico without the opportunity to seek asylum under Title 42. It has been requested by the Biden administration that the Supreme Court keep it in place until after December 27.

Yessica Jerales, a Venezuelan immigrant who was there with her two children, stated that Christmas has made things even more challenging.

She stated, “You don’t know where they’re going to sleep on December 24.” They think it’s Christmas when they see the lights, so you have to explain that our goal is to give them a better future.

Similar problems confront migrants in other border cities.

Giovanny Castellanos, a Venezuelan, had arrived in Matamoros, Texas, six weeks earlier. He was preparing to spend Christmas in a tent away from his wife and five children.

On Wednesday, Castellanos stated that thirty to forty individuals crossed the Rio Bravo to surrender to American authorities. Inflatable mattresses were used by some migrants to transport small children and belongings, according to Reuters images.

Castellanos, 32, stated, “Lots of people are desperate, lots of people don’t want to spend Christmas here.”

According to Juan Antonio Sierra, who oversees Matamoros’s largest migrant shelter, the city now has up to 8,000 migrants, the majority of whom are living on the streets or in the border encampment.

He worries that people who are eager to reach the United States will risk their lives crossing the river because temperatures are expected to drop even further.

More Russia buys weapons in North Korea-U.S.

He stated, “It’s dangerous because they can drown, because temperatures fluctuate, and it’s going to get even colder.” Furthermore, he added,
