Michigan prosecutor was target of murder

Budrigannews.com – On Thursday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated that she was one of the possible targets of a man charged by federal prosecutors with threatening to kill Jewish state employees.
According to a criminal complaint that was unveiled on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, 41-year-old Jack Eugene Carpenter III is accused of making the threats on Twitter with the intention of injuring and killing Jewish officials “if they don’t leave, or confess.” Carpenter was in Texas at the time.
In a tweet, Nessel, who is currently in her second term, stated, “The FBI has confirmed I was a target of the heavily armed defendant in this matter.”
Carpenter was taken into custody by federal authorities in Texas on February 21 and later transported to Detroit, where he appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday. According to the U.S. attorney’s office, he is accused of posting a threat to harm on social media on February 17 and transmitting it in interstate commerce.
Carpenter could spend up to five years in prison if he is found guilty. After the FBI investigation is finished, the prosecutor will decide whether or not to seek an indictment.
The allegations come just a few months after a number of men were given prison terms in state and federal courts for planning to kidnap the governor of Michigan in 2020. Carpenter’s alleged threats were not the subject of the complaint.
A pretrial detention hearing for the defendant, who lives in Tipton, about 65 miles southwest of Detroit, is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
According to the complaint, Carpenter stated in a subsequent tweet that any attempt to subdue him “will be met with deadly force in self-defense.”
According to the complaint, Carpenter is the registered owner of three 9 mm handguns. Michigan State Police, which is also looking into him for stealing a fourth handgun, previously arrested him in December for assault.
