Mexico supplies Ukrainian soldiers with prosthetics
Budrigannews.com – After spending months in Mexico as a result of his injuries, Oleh, a Ukrainian soldier who was wounded in the war earlier this year, is returning to his home country.
According to him, he has two thoughts: celebrating the 12th birthday of his son and returning to the battlefield.
One of the close to a dozen soldiers who are receiving “bionic” prostheses in Mexico through a partnership with the Ukrainian embassy there is Oleh, but he declined to share his last name and some details about his life due to concerns about safety.
Oleh is a professional soldier, as evidenced by the Latin phrase “pugnare cum gladio” tattooed on his left arm. He claimed that 2014, when the Russian invasion of Crimea began, was the first time he joined the Ukrainian military as a volunteer.
At the beginning of the year, as Russian troops began to enter the country under the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he reenlisted.
Oleh stated, “It was automatic” regarding his decision. We were forced to act.
A while into the battling, he was seriously injured by Russian powers – losing his right arm, alongside supporting a physical issue to his right eye. He was hospitalized in a trance like state in Ukraine prior to being traveled to Mexico.
In preparation for receiving a custom-made prosthetic arm, Oleh has worked in physical therapy for the past three months with Human Assistive Technologies, a medical technology company founded by Colombian Alvaro Rios.
“Since the beginning of the war, between 7,000 and 8,000 Ukrainians have had some kind of amputation,” Rios stated. Therefore, this is a pressing social issue, which is why we joined.”
The first two people to receive prostheses through the program were Oleh and another Ukrainian, Danylo, a volunteer soldier who declined to be interviewed for this story.

Oleh practiced boxing to get used to the new prostheses. Danylo encircled a pocket knife with the robotic hands.
Oleh stated, “There is work to be done.” Putin is still alive, and our land is still under occupation.”
