Mexican Cartel apologizes for killing Americans

Budrigannews.com – According to the media and a source familiar with the investigation, members of a suspected drug cartel handed over five alleged henchmen on Thursday as an apparent apology for the abduction of four Americans in the border city of Matamoros.
A Mexican woman and two Americans were killed when gunmen opened fire on them on Friday, shortly after they arrived in Matamoros. On Monday, the four Americans were discovered on the outskirts of the city, with two of them already dead.
According to a Reuters witness, Mexican officials handed over the bodies of Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown to American officials in Matamoros on Thursday afternoon. The bodies were then transported across the border into the United States.
Reuters was able to obtain a copy of an internal government document that indicated that the kidnappings were likely carried out by a section of the Gulf Cartel in Mexico and that the perpetrators may have been persuaded that the Americans were invading the gang’s territory.
Photos of a letter that was attributed to a different faction of the cartel were published in Mexican newspapers and social media. In the letter, the cartel apologized for the events in Matamoros and stated that it was handing over five men who were involved in the kidnappings.
The letter was left close by five men with their hands bound in Matamoros, the photographs showed. The handover was confirmed by a Mexican source familiar with the investigation, but the source expressed doubt that the five were the ones who carried out the attack.
The reports were not addressed by the Tamaulipas attorney general’s office, which is located in the state of Matamoros.
Separately, the American hostages were taken to a medical facility by their kidnappers, according to the state attorney general’s office’s investigation.
According to the Mexican source, the evidence suggested that Woodard and Brown had probably died from injuries sustained during the Friday attack in Matamoros. This week, their two survivors made their way back to the United States.
Monday, the attorney general of Tamaulipas stated that the abduction of the four was probably a case of mistaken identity; however, authorities have not yet provided a clear explanation for the attack.
