Budrigannews.com – According to lottery organizers on Saturday, a single winning Mega Millions ticket worth at least $1.35 billion, the second-largest jackpot ever won in the United States, was sold in Maine.
Ohio Lottery director Pat McDonald, the lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium, issued a statement that read, “Congratulations to the Maine State Lottery, which has just won its first-ever Mega Millions jackpot.” This is the fourth Mega Millions jackpot of a billion dollars.
The city or owner of the winning ticket, which would have cost $2 and matched all six numbers, were not mentioned in the statement. They can choose to receive a lump sum of $724.6 million or an annual payment spread out over 30 years.
According to the Mega Millions website, the majority of winners choose the lump sum, which comes with a substantial tax bill.
Together with the power ball 14, the jackpot’s winning numbers were 30, 43, 45, 46, and 61. Since the last time the jackpot was won on October 14, California and Florida’s winning tickets shared a $502 million prize. It ranks second in the game’s 20-year history, trailing only the $1.537 billion that was won in South Carolina in October 2018.
In addition to the ticket that won the jackpot, fourteen other tickets won the game’s second-tier prize of $1 million by matching all five numbers. New York saw the sale of four, California saw the sale of two, and Texas, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Illinois each saw one.
The state in which the Mega Millions ticket was sold receives half of the proceeds, which are used to support lottery beneficiaries like education or public employee pensions and retailer commissions.
