Mass strikes have begun in Brussels
Budrigannews.com – On Friday, thousands of people protested in Brussels against the rising cost of living. They damaged public transportation systems and disrupted this week’s EU summit.
Trade unions representing a large number of public sector workers organized the demonstration, according to the Brussels police, for better pay and working conditions in light of Europe’s rising inflation.
“Increment Wages And Annuities!,” read a protester’s banner that was held in the air.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, gas and electricity prices have skyrocketed. In November, headline inflation in Belgium was 10.63 percent, while consumer inflation in the entire euro zone was around 10 percent.
“When you return to your children at home, you want the house to be warm. One demonstrator stated, “You shouldn’t have to make calculations about how to use energy.”

The occasion passed off calmly, yet Brussels Air terminal said flights must be dropped because of the dissent, while neighborhood police said traffic had been upset.
