‘Major scale up’ of food deliveries under way in Sudan, WFP says

GENEVA (Reuters) – More than 700 trucks are currently on their way to communities across Sudan as part of a major scale up, a World Food Programme spokesperson said on Tuesday.
“In total, the trucks will carry about 17,500 tons of food assistance, enough to feed 1.5 million people for one month,” WFP spokesperson Leni Kinzli told a Geneva press briefing.
She added that some of the food was intended for 14 areas of the country that face famine or at risk of famine, including Zamzam camp in the conflict-torn Darfur region.
