Lula called opposition leader Bolsonaro imitator of Trump

Budrigannews.com – Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, said that Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate who succeeded him, was a “faithful copycat” of Donald Trump and that there was no chance that Bolsonaro would win a second term in office.
Friday, the leftist leader informed CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that the Brazilian judiciary is looking into whether Bolsonaro has violated democracy.
Lula stated that he would not ask the United States to extradite Bolsonaro, who has been in Florida since the end of December, because any such request would be up to Brazil’s judiciary during the interview in Washington prior to a meeting with U.S. President Biden.
However, Lula stated that he hopes an international court will find the former president guilty of genocide for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the deaths of 698,000 Brazilians.
In Brazil, where he is the subject of at least four criminal investigations, Bolsonaro’s trip to the United States shields him from any immediate risk of legal action.
Friday afternoon, Lula will meet Biden at the White House in an effort to demonstrate American support for Brazil’s democracy, which was threatened by Bolsonaro, who has never conceded defeat.
On January 8, supporters of Bolsonaro stormed government buildings in Brasilia, calling for a military coup to remove Lula. This was reminiscent of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, by supporters of Trump.
Lula stated that Bolsonaro, who flew to Florida two days before stepping down from office at the end of December, disliked labor unions, business, and journalists. He stated, “He alone and his lies.”
According to Lula, the government is currently purging officers who support Bolsonaro and that he removed the army commander as a result of his administration’s belief that certain sections of the military were complicit with those seeking to restore Bolsonaro.
When asked about Brazil’s neutrality in the war in Ukraine, the leader of Brazil said that Russia made the mistake of invading a sovereign nation. However, he defended his decision to not provide German-made artillery ammunition that would have been needed by the West to support the Ukrainian defense.
“I would join the war if I sent the ammunition. I refuse to participate in the war. Lula stated, “I want peace.”
