Budrigannews.com – A company-wide IT outage at German airline Lufthansa has resulted in numerous flight cancellations and delays, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports.
One of Europe’s largest international airlines said in a statement on Wednesday that construction work in Frankfurt had damaged the fiber optic cables of a telecoms service provider, causing an IT system outage at Frankfurt airport for Lufthansa.
An IT outage currently affects the Lufthansa Group’s airlines. Flights are being delayed or canceled as a result of this. On Twitter, Lufthansa stated, “We regret the inconvenience this is causing our passengers.”
Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and Swiss are all owned by Lufthansa.
Lufthansa advised Frankfurt passengers not to travel to the city’s airport in a separate statement on its website.
The airline added that domestic flight passengers can switch to Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s national rail service, for free until Sunday.
In the early evening, Lufthansa predicted that its operations would “stabilize.”
The company’s shares were down 0.8%.
