The RNC’s fundraising efforts have been slower compared to previous election cycles. In 2020, the committee raised approximately $890 million. Earlier this month, Donald Trump endorsed North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley as the next RNC chair and Lara Trump as co-chair, signaling a leadership shakeup.
This move was prompted by reports of Trump’s frustration with the current chair, Ronna McDaniel, due to perceived lackluster fundraising and the party’s performance in elections.
When questioned by the media about the possibility of using RNC funds to cover Donald Trump’s legal fees in ongoing criminal and civil cases, Lara Trump stated that she was unsure if such payments were permissible under RNC rules.
