Jobless claims in the US have increased
Budrigannews.com – The number of people filing initial claims for unemployment benefits reached a three-month high, exceeding expectations. This development adds to the growing body of evidence indicating that the labor market is cooling as a result of the series of significant interest rate increases.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it increased to 240,000 from 223,000 the week before.
That is the highest number since August, when the numbers were skewed by auto industry maintenance schedules. The rolling for initial claims increased to 226,750, the highest level since September, which reduces some of the series’ volatility.
Also increased by 48,000, exceeding expectations to reach 1.551 million, the highest level since February, indicating that it is becoming increasingly difficult for laid-off workers to immediately find new employment.
