Japan will increase pressure on Russia-Foreign Minister
Budrigannews.com – Japan, according to the remarks of Japanese Foreign Minister Eshimasa Hayashi, which were made at the Reuters conference, will use the position of leader in the Group of Seven and the UN this year to pressure Russia to end the war with Ukraine.
“The continuation of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is a blatant violation of international rights. Hayashi believes that “this is an unacceptable and outraged act that threatens the foundation of the world order.” The leaders of Japan stated that the Russian attack on Ukraine is a threat to their own national interests.
We are also concerned that North Korea may continue to threaten its neighbors and give China confidence that it will use military force to advance its territorial ambitions in Eastern and Southern China, including Taiwan, which is located nearby.
Japan will have a more visible international platform to express its concerns when it becomes chairman of the G7 Industrial Democracy in 2023 and returns for two years as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
The Big Seven in October assumed the obligation to provide Ukraine with financial, humanitarian, military, diplomatic and legal assistance, as long as it is necessary. In Japan, according to Hayashi, they will work on preserving the group. Hayashi said: “No country can reject Russia’s aggression as someone else’s issue.”
“The G7 countries and international communities should support good common work on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and other measures,” Japan wants to coordinate its work with other states.
In May of this year, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will meet with the leaders of the G7 group in Hiroshima, where nuclear threats are expected to be discussed. Japan also said that in the coming year it will again insist on UN reform to correct the “dysfunctional” Security Council, which did not stop Russia from attacking Ukraine.
Japan has long been in favor of expanding the Council, including for the first permanent seat since the Council was established almost eight decades ago. Japan is the third largest contributor to the budget of the United Nations and is still the UN “enemy state”.
“Maybe we want to further strengthen the work on developing changes in the united countries,” Hayashi told Reuters. Since its founding, the membership of the UN has remained unchanged. It should reflect the current situation of the world, not 1945,” she added. If we take into account the veto power of Russian and Chinese decisions that share their decisions with the United States, Britain, and France, such reforms will become a difficult task.
However, these actions may have an additional impact on Moscow for its “special military operation” in the country. Hayashi said frustration is growing among United Nations members. Almost 3 quarters of the General Assembly voted to punish Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
