Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.26%
Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Transport sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.26%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd (TYO:8802), which rose 5.08% or 94.50 points to trade at 1,955.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (TYO:8801) added 3.40% or 91.50 points to end at 2,780.50 and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) was up 3.12% or 105.00 points to 3,475.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103), which fell 7.98% or 19.00 points to trade at 219.00 at the close. Dentsu Inc. (TYO:4324) declined 6.39% or 285.00 points to end at 4,175.00 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TYO:6703) was down 5.77% or 44.00 points to 718.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2134 to 1365 and 287 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd (TYO:8802) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 5.08% or 94.50 to 1,955.50. Shares in Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103) fell to 52-week lows; losing 7.98% or 19.00 to 219.00. Shares in Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.12% or 105.00 to 3,475.00. Shares in Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TYO:6703) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.77% or 44.00 to 718.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.93% to 23.90.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 1.15% or 1.26 to $111.03 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 1.10% or 1.22 to hit $111.91 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.43% or 7.95 to trade at $1,857.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.30% to 127.18, while EUR/JPY fell 0.13% to 135.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 102.11.
