Iranian drone attacked US tanker
Budrigannews.com – Tuesday, the U.S. military reported that debris analysis revealed that a commercial tanker off the coast of Oman was targeted with the same kind of Iranian drone that Tehran supplied to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Photos and information regarding its investigation into the attack on the Liberian-flagged Pacific Zircon tanker, including debris from the Shahed-136 drone itself, were made public by the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet of the U.S. Navy.
In an explanation, the Naval force said the robot tore a 30 expansive (76 cm) opening into the rear of the boat, and the hazardous effect harmed a shipboard kettle, consumable water tank and life pontoon.Vice Adm. Brad Cooper, the top U.S. Navy commander in the Middle East, said in a statement, “The Iranian attack on a commercial tanker transiting international waters was deliberate, flagrant, and dangerous, endangering the lives of the ship’s crew and destabilizing maritime security in the Middle East.”
Tanker attacks in Gulf waters in recent years have occurred during times of increased regional tensions with Iran.Off the coast of Oman, in July 2021, an Israeli company’s petroleum product tanker was thought to have been hit by a drone.Iran refuted claims that it was to blame.
