IOHK Countdowns for Vasil Upgrade, “the Most Complex Project”
- IOHK officially tweeted about the countdown for Vasil mainnet upgrade.
- Initially, the team submitted an updated proposal to hard fork Cardano testnet.
- Vasil mainnet intends to increase scalability on the Cardano network.
On June 28, Charles Hoskinson’s IOHK team officially tweeted that they have submitted an updated proposal to hard fork the Cardano Testnet. Similarly, the team is counting down to finally activating Vasil mainnet on the Cardano network.
We’re delighted to report that in the last few minutes we have submitted an update proposal to hard fork the #Cardano Testnet, and commence the countdown for the #Vasil mainnet upgrade.

Significantly, Vasil mainnet will enhance scaling capabilities on the Cardano network, which will be available on Cardano’s test network. This new feature will reportedly bring changes from a higher output through diffusion pipelining to a better developer experience via much-improved script performance and efficiency.
The name Vasil was chosen in honor of long-standing IOHK community member, the late Vasil St Dabov.
In a series of tweets, the IOHK team explained the Vasil upgrade in detail. One tweet read:
With over 75% of testnet blocks being created by the new Vasil node (1.35.0) we now have a good chain density to proceed safely
Also, the team announced that after the changes take place following the start of epoch 215 on July 3, the Cardano testnet will start the new Vasil enhancements and capabilities.
Moreover, IOHK tweeted that the Vasil hard fork is the most complex program the team has undertaken with the involvement of the whole Cardano community. Moreso, they remarked that the prime concern is “ensuring they manage this upgrade in a way that is safe and secure.”
Earlier last week, IOHK announced a delay in introducing the Vasil hard fork. This was because there were more outstanding technical works to apply to ensure the hard fork would work as expected. The announcement came following the rumors that there was a big delay for the mainnet launch.
