Information about bomb near President of Brazil has not been confirmed
Budrigannews.com – On Tuesday, police in Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, stated that the backpack that sparked a bomb scare when it was discovered nearby the residence of President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva contained only personal belongings.
The anxious atmosphere in Brasilia following the most contentious election in a generation is heightened by the news that the bomb squad was called into action just a few days before Lula takes office.
A man with ties to a group of pro-Bolsonaro election deniers camping outside the army headquarters, who have been urging the military to overturn Lula’s victory, was arrested by Brasilia police on December 24.
“Provoke a military intervention… to prevent the installation of communism in Brazil,” said George Washington Sousa, who admitted to making the device and plotting its detonation with other camp dwellers.
After the arrest of a pro-Bolsonaro indigenous leader for allegedly making anti-democratic threats earlier in December, a group from the encampment attempted to enter the federal police headquarters.
The political strains in the capital have provoked Lula’s group to expand security conventions for Sunday’s initiation, approaching Equity Pastor Flavio Dino said on Monday.
Dino said on Tuesday that the transition team will ask the Supreme Court to stop allowing people to carry guns in Brasilia for a few days.
The number of registered gun owners has increased by sixfold to approximately 700,000 since Bolsonaro began easing gun laws in 2019.

Dino stated to journalists, “We will ask Justice Alexandre de Moraes… to suspend the carrying of firearms in the Federal District between tomorrow (Wednesday) and January 2 or 3.”
“The objective is for even permit holders to have their permits suspended by court order, so that carrying firearms during this time will be considered a crime.”
