India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.51%
Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.51%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which rose 0.89% or 7.00 points to trade at 793.95 at the close. Meanwhile, ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 0.77% or 2.40 points to end at 314.40 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 0.53% or 1.15 points to 218.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 4.54% or 5.00 points to trade at 105.05 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 3.81% or 132.80 points to end at 3,349.75 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was down 3.62% or 31.55 points to 840.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 0.64% to 314.20, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was up 0.28% to settle at 19,492.50 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 0.24% to close at 4,189.90.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 4.50% to 105.05 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 3.51% to settle at 3,360.00 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.96% to 420.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1316 to 541 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2193 fell and 1211 advanced, while 160 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.12% to 19.04.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.84% or 14.75 to $1,748.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.38% or 0.34 to hit $90.78 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.26 to trade at $96.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.12% to 79.83, while EUR/INR fell 0.40% to 79.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 108.31.
