India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.74%
Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.78%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 2.95% or 123.75 points to trade at 4,322.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 2.76% or 8.95 points to end at 332.85 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 2.74% or 74.70 points to 2,798.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 3.86% or 41.90 points to trade at 1,044.85 at the close. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) declined 1.96% or 384.75 points to end at 19,199.00 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was down 1.64% or 7.15 points to 428.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 3.00% to 4,326.10, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 2.73% to settle at 2,798.60 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 2.01% to close at 676.50.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.81% to 1,045.35 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.18% to settle at 155.20 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 0.93% to 5,481.80 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 943 to 864 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1695 rose and 1505 declined, while 123 ended unchanged.
Shares in Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.96% or 384.75 to 19,199.00. Shares in UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 0.93% or 51.35 to 5,481.80.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.52% to 19.14 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.30% or 5.50 to $1,851.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.20% or 0.24 to hit $121.87 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.13 to trade at $123.45 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 77.72, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 83.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 102.40.
