India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.21%
Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 3.10% or 50.40 points to trade at 1,675.25 at the close. Meanwhile, NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 2.83% or 4.50 points to end at 163.40 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 2.82% or 18.30 points to 667.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which fell 3.63% or 126.35 points to trade at 3,355.10 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 1.85% or 20.20 points to end at 1,069.75 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 1.37% or 10.15 points to 730.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.80% to 163.40, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was up 2.65% to settle at 2,532.50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 1.92% to close at 230.60.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.92% to 1,068.45 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.20% to settle at 2,394.75 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.18% to 3,323.35 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1049 to 778 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1901 rose and 1381 declined, while 141 ended unchanged.
Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; up 2.83% or 4.50 to 163.40. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.80% or 4.45 to 163.40.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.92% to 18.22.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 11.65 to $1,759.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.26% or 1.17 to hit $93.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.56 to trade at $100.90 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 79.81, while EUR/INR rose 0.42% to 79.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 108.13.
