Governor of Arizona appealed to court with request for sanction on opponent
Budrigannews.com – On Monday, Arizona’s Democratic candidate for governor, Katie Hobbs, asked a court to punish Republican candidate Kari Lake for her unsuccessful attempt to overturn the state’s election results.
In an effort to be declared the winner despite the absence of evidence of voter fraud, Lake filed a lawsuit on Saturday challenging the counting and certification of the November election.
According to court documents, Hobbs joined Maricopa County’s motion for sanctions against Lake and her attorneys. In the motion, county deputy attorney Thomas P. Liddy wrote that Lake had filed a “groundless” lawsuit for a “frivolous pursuit.”
“Enough truly is sufficient,” Liddy wrote in the movement recorded on Monday. ” It is past due to put an end to allegations made against election officials and attacks on elections that are not supported by evidence.
In a response filed on Monday evening, Lake’s lawyers requested that the court deny the request for sanctions, stating that Maricopa County’s motion had “no basis in law or fact.”
“Trust in the political decision process isn’t promoted by rebuffing the people who bring authentic cases as offended party did here,” the court record documented by Lake’s legal advisors said. ” In point of fact, penalizing plaintiff would accomplish the exact opposite.”
A judge would impose financial sanctions on the offender in the event of misconduct or a rule violation.
Lake’s claim had designated Hobbs, who is presently Arizona’s secretary of state and becomes lead representative one week from now, alongside high ranking representatives in Maricopa District. “Hundreds of thousands of illegal ballots infected the election” in Maricopa, the most populous county in the state, according to her lawsuit.
Hobbs also requested an award of more than $600,000 from the Superior Court in Maricopa County in a separate court filing to cover fees and costs incurred in defending Lake’s lawsuit.

One of the most well-known Republican candidates in the midterm elections, former Republican President Donald Trump’s false claims of voter fraud in 2020 were supported by Lake, a former television news anchor.
She lost the governor’s race to Hobbs, but she didn’t give in and kept tweeting unsubstantiated claims about election irregularities.
One of the most prominent Republican candidates who lost battleground state races in the midterm elections was Lake, who supported Trump.
