Government Ukraine experiencing disagreements after military defeats

Budrigannews.com – On Monday, Ukraine sent contradictory messages regarding the fate of its defense minister, putting a crucial position in its war effort in jeopardy while it prepares for a new Russian offensive.

The first public indication of disarray in Ukraine’s wartime leadership, which had been remarkably united during Russia’s military assault, was the questioning of Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov.

A day after declaring that Reznikov would be replaced, the head of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s party faction in parliament stated that there would be no personnel changes in the defense sector.

David Arakhamia had said that Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the GUR military intelligence agency, would be the new defense minister.

Reznikov stated that he had not been informed of the proposed change, and Zelenskiy has not made any public statements regarding it.

This year, Zelenskiy has sacked a number of high-ranking officials in an effort to crack down on corruption. Due to a ministry corruption scandal, Reznikov was under pressure.

Kyrylo Budanov is a young officer who rose quickly to become the chief of military intelligence. He was awarded for his work in mostly secret operations.

Serhiy Haidai, Kyiv’s governor of Luhansk province, which is mostly occupied by Russia, stated that Moscow was bringing in reinforcements for an offensive that could begin as soon as next week.

Zelenskiy stated that the ferocious battles taking place in the Donetsk region of Ukraine “are very difficult” as Kyiv prepared for a possible Russian offensive this month, just before the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This week, the IAEA’s head will visit Moscow, but the Kremlin said he won’t meet with President Vladimir Putin.

According to International Energy Agency (IEA) chief Fatih Birol, Moscow’s revenues from oil and gas exports were likely impacted by price caps on Russian oil by nearly 30% in January, or approximately $8 billion, compared to the same time last year.

According to President Zelenskiy, Ukraine has written letters to businesses that support the International Olympic Committee urging them to exclude Russian athletes from the Paris Olympics.
