George Santos will not resign voluntarily

Budrigannews.com – On Thursday, U.S. Representative George Santos clarified an earlier statement that he would resign if “142 people” asked him to do so due to a series of false claims he made about his work and personal background. He said he would only resign if he loses the next election.
On Thursday, as he hurriedly left his Capitol Hill office and entered an elevator, he made his first comment about the possibility of withdrawing. “I will resign if 142 people ask me to,” he declared.
Later, the Republican congressman who served his first term said that he would only step down from office if the more than 142,000 people who elected him in November vote against him in the 2024 election.
“142,000 people selected me for office. In a podcast, Santos said, “We’ll find out in two years unless those same 142,000 people tell me they don’t want me.” He added that he would not comply with the demands of politicians and party leaders seeking his resignation.
Despite the growing pressure from within his own party for him to resign, Santos has repeatedly stated that he will not do so.
More than a dozen Republicans, many of whom represented Santos’ New York City-area district, called for the newly elected congressman to resign on Wednesday. Six other Republican representatives from New York had joined the call for his resignation by Thursday.
However, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy reiterated earlier statements to reporters on Thursday that he would defer Santos’ fate to the Ethics Committee and voters.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a non-profit ethics watchdog organization, has started an online petition requesting Santos’ resignation.
Santos has acknowledged fabricating a significant portion of his resume, including the claims that he held degrees from Baruch College and New York University and had worked for Goldman Sachs (NYSE:). as well as Citigroup (NYSE: Additionally, he claimed that his grandparents escaped the Nazis during World War II, and that he was a Jew.
