George Santos ignored invitation to White House

Budrigannews.com – On Tuesday evening, embattled Republican freshman Representative George Santos declined his invitation to a White House reception. It appears that he was joined by a number of hardline newcomers in declining President Joe Biden’s invitation.
All first-time legislators were invited to the bipartisan reception that was hosted by Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. However, the White House’s list of more than 40 registrants for the event did not include many Republicans who were opposed to Biden’s policies.
Several of the people who tried to stop Republican Kevin McCarthy from becoming speaker earlier this month are missing, but they gave in when he offered them a lot of concessions.
Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Eli Crane of Arizona, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, and Keith Self of Texas served as representatives. After regular business hours, their representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
Earlier on Tuesday, Santos told reporters on Capitol Hill: “I have faced calls from fellow New York Republicans to step down over fabrications about his career and history.” I won’t be going.
The White House event was expected to be attended by eleven new Republicans.
Karine Jean-Pierre, a spokesperson for the White House, stated on Monday that “everyone is invited who is part of the new Congress.”
Biden is expected to begin his campaign for a second, four-year term in 2024. He needs congressional support to raise the debt limit, pass a new budget, and help fulfill a number of his promises to voters.
Instead, numerous House Republicans have pledged to halt government spending and conduct an investigation into Biden’s family and office use.
During the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans won a slim majority in the House, while Biden’s fellow Democrats hold a narrow majority in the Senate.
Only after complying with a hardliner’s demand that any legislator be able to call for McCarthy’s removal was McCarthy elected as speaker. As a result, Californians will have significantly less influence over legislation.
