George Santos has No place in Congress-Romney
By Kristina Sobol
Budrigannews.com – On Tuesday, embattled fellow Republican Representative George Santos was told by U.S. Senator Mitt Romney that he should not have been in Congress and should not have been in the center of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
On his way into the House of Representatives chamber prior to the speech, former Republican presidential candidate and elder statesman Mitt Romney was seen having a brief conversation with Santos, who has made numerous false claims about his past.
Romney told reporters following the speech, “He shouldn’t be in Congress, and they’re going to go through the process and hopefully get him out.” But he shouldn’t be there, and he wouldn’t be there if he had any shame at all.”
Romney claimed to have informed Santos of this.
Santos, who represents a New York district, had seated himself along the chamber’s center aisle, which is where the president, Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices, and senators enter the hall.
An aide to Speaker Kevin McCarthy stated earlier on Tuesday that, despite the fact that Santos is the subject of ethics complaints from other members of Congress, the House Ethics Committee has not yet organized for the next two years and cannot initiate any potential investigations.
Santos has expressed regret for “embellishing” his resume, but he has refused to step down in spite of calls for him from constituents and fellow New York state Republicans. He has stated that he will step down only if he loses the next election, which will be in 2024.
