Frida’s Kahlo Artwork Will Be Permanently Displayed on Decentraland Metaverse
A legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, best known for her uncompromising and brilliantly colored self-portraits, will have a dedicated space on the Decentraland Metaverse.
A permanent exhibition in the digital space was launched during the third-annual Metaverse Art Week on Decentraland, held from August 24th to August 28th.
Exceptional Opportunity to visit Frida’s Kahlo Red House
In collaboration with Ezel. Life, creators of immersive web3 experiences, Frida Kahlo’s family launched a permanent installation on Decentraland called the Frida Kahlo Family Red House. It is a digital replica of the actual “Red House” in Mexico city owned by the family.
In the real world, so-called Red House is a private family residence, that is not accessible to the visitors. Only the famous Blue House (Casa Azul), where Kahlo lived with her husband Diego Rivera, is converted into museum and is open to tourists. The sight attracts over half a million visitors each year.
Immersive Metaverse Experience
The immersive metaverse project enables everyone to visit the Red House as well. The digital space showcases the first half of Frida’s remarkable life and never-before-seen artwork from the artist. Each room in the Red House in the metaverse reflects obscure facets of the artist’s life before her infamous marriage to the Mexican painter Diego Rivera.
To create the installation, the creative team used high-resolution image capture techniques to scan each piece of content. At least 30 separate photographs and videos are required for one item.
The creators of Ezel.Life claimed to have amassed approximately 800 unique items, including sketches, original works of art, and other things utilized in Frida Kahlo’s daily life.
“We are thrilled to partner with Decentraland to bring Frida Kahlo’s family home, The Red House, into the metaverse. This experience will uncover many untold stories and memories about Frida Kahlo’s challenges and triumphs that add depth to her exceptional life as an artist.
The Red House is the first of many exciting projects Ezel.Life will deliver to digital audiences globally, including immersive experiences at UNESCO World Heritage sites Teotihuacán and Chichén Itzá,” said Pedro Quinzanos, co-founder and CEO of Ezel.Life, in the press release.
On the Flipside
The quality of images and avatars in the digital universe is still an issue. Developing the quality of metaverse interaction is still a hot topic in the industry.
The issue becomes evident in digital events like the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week held on Decentraland this spring. According to feedback, the event lacked quality in the digital environments, garments, and particularly the avatars with which people interacted.
