France will not return to nuclear test site-Le Maire
Budrigannews.com – Plans to reorganize the state-controlled nuclear power group EDF have been put on hold indefinitely in France (EPA:), Friday, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire stated that he went by the codename Hercules.
During a visit to the Penly nuclear facility in northern France, Le Maire stated, “Hercules has been dropped, and we will not go back on it.”
Employees were particularly concerned about job security as a result of the revamp, which was intended to separate the debt-laden nuclear power business from the rest of the company’s assets. They feared that a split between the EDF businesses could lead to job cuts.
As European governments seek to secure their energy supplies, France is purchasing the remaining 16 percent of EDF that it does not already own in order to privatize the company and have complete control over its operations.
