Budrigannews.com – The Fortescue Metals Group of Australia (OTC:)appointed former Woodside on Tuesday (OTC:) Fiona Hick, a former energy executive, will take over as CEO in February 2023 after Elizabeth Gaines left in August to be replaced.
Hick joins Fortescue at a time when the iron ore giant is expanding into the mining of critical minerals and rare earths. Additionally, Fortescue is working through its unit Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) to become a green energy company.
Hick worked for Woodside for more than two decades. He most recently held the position of executive vice president of Australian operations. He was a member of the team that guided the company through its $40 billion merger with the global mining company BHP Group (NYSE:)’s petroleum division.

Forrest stated that Hicks will assist the company in “stepping beyond fossil fuels.”
Gaines remains a non-executive director on Fortescue’s board, where he oversaw a threefold increase in the share price of one of the largest iron ore miners in the world over the past four years.
